Terebratula (Waldheimia) apenninica was named by Zittel (1869).

It was recombined as Zeilleria apenninica by Siblik (1993); it was recombined as Bakonithyris apenninica by Alméras et al. (2007); it was recombined as Bakonyithyris apenninica by Vörös (2009).
