Saracenaria was named by Defrance (1824) [Sepkoski's age data: K Berr R Sepkoski's reference number: 959]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Nodosariinae by Cushman (1927) and Dorreen (1948); to Nodosariidae by Asano (1949); to Lenticulininae by Loeblich and Tappan (1984); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
