Agnostus securiger was named by Lake (1906). Its type specimen is GSM57650, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sulcatagnostus securiger by Kobayashi (1937); it was recombined as Pseudagnostus (Sulcatagnostus) securiger by Shergold (1977); it was recombined as Pseudagnostus securiger by Choi et al. (2004).
