Cardioecia was named by Canu and Bassler (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala R Sepkoski's reference number: 908]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Entalophoridae by Bassler (1953); to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Plagioeciidae by Taylor (2010).
