Taxonomy
Herangirhynchia awakinoensis was named by MacFarlan (1992). Its type specimen is OU 16982, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is McF F1, lower quarry, Awakino Gorge (R17/f8567), which is in a Toarcian marine horizon in New Zealand.
