Taxonomy
Cancer limosa was named by Say (1817). It is extant. It is the type species of Eurytium.

It was recombined as Panopeus limosus by Benedict and Rathbun (1891); it was recombined as Eurytium limosum by Rathbun (1935), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
