Taxonomy

Chirotherium sickleri was named by Kaup (1835). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium minus by Kuhn (1958).

Chirotherium bornemanni was named by Willruth (1917). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium minus by Peabody (1948) and Kuhn (1958); it was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium sickleri by Haubold (1969), Haubold (1971), King et al. (2005) and Klein and Lucas (2021).
Chirotherium minus was named by Sickler (1836). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Teyler Museum 1320, 1317, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium sickleri by Haubold (1969), Haubold (1971), Haubold (1974), King et al. (2005), Klein and Haubold (2007), Klein and Lucas (2010) and Klein and Lucas (2021).
Chirotherium beasleyi was named by Nopcsa (1923). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium sickleri by Haubold (1969), Haubold (1971), Haubold (1974), Tresise (2003), King et al. (2005) and Klein and Lucas (2021).
Chirotherium bipes was named by Berthold (1835). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil.

H. Klein and S. G. Lucas 2021	Digit IV in the pes slightly shorter than III but much longer than II. Digit I thin and short but with minor posterior shift compared with other Chirotherium ichnospecies. Digit V with slender, recurved phalangeal portion and slightly enlarged basal pad. Trackway narrow with long strides, pace angulation 160°.
