Idmidronea was named by Canu and Bassler (1920) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 590]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); to Multisparsidae by Guha (2013); and to Tubuliporidae by Bassler (1953), Lee et al. (1997), Gordon and Taylor (1999), Guha and Gopikrishna (2007) and Gordon and Taylor (2015).
