Lichenopora was named by Defrance (1823) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Lichenoporidae.
It was assigned to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lichenoporidae by Bassler (1953) and Bock (2004).
