Qianxisaurus chajiangensis

Taxonomy
Qianxisaurus chajiangensis was named by Cheng et al. (2012). Its type specimen is NMNS-KIKO-F044630, a skeleton (a nearly complete skeleton with the tip of the tail and the right hind limb missing), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chajiang (near the Huangnihe River), Xingyi, which is in a Ladinian marine horizon in the Falang Formation of China. It is the type species of Qianxisaurus.

Cheng et al. 2012An eosauropterygian, with a total length of over 80 cm, distinguishable from others in the combination of the following characters: premaxilla bearing eight teeth and contributing a small portion to elongated oval external naris; snout longer than the rest of skull; irregular morphology of postorbital with a truncated dorsal process and a forked posterior process; teeth with slightly constricted peduncle and short conical crown; supratemporal fenestra very small and only slightly larger than parietal foramen; short and stout retroarticular process posteriorly truncated and lacking dorsal concavity; trunk region relatively long with 28 dorsal vertebrae; presence of four sacral vertebrae; ribs not pachyostotic; presence of longitudinal groove on posterodorsal surface of dorsal ribs (shared with Corosaurus, Sanchiaosaurus, Kwangsisaurus, and Chinchenia); and coracoid with a narrow, column-shaped lateral portion and an expanded, foot-shaped medial portion.
