Taxonomy
Thaumastoplax prima was named by Rathbun (1918). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 6020a, Canal Zone, which is in an Aquitanian marine shale/mudstone in the Culebra Formation of Panama.
It was recombined as Palaeopinnixa prima by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Luque et al. (2017).
