Cypraea lurida was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Holocene-Recent; Mediterranean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cypraea (Luria) lurida by Jousseaume (1884); it was recombined as Luria lurida by Landau and Groves (2011).
