Taxonomy
Zonaria (Zonaria) pittorum was named by Groves (1997) [= Zonaria (Zonaria) n.sp. GROVES, 1997, West. Soc. Malac., Ann. Rept., v. 29, p. 8.]. Its type specimen is LACMIP 12432, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 1399. Roadcut on west side of Camarones, which is in a Pliocene deep-water shale in the Onzole Formation of Ecuador.
It was recombined as Zonaria pittorum by Landau and Groves (2011).
