Taxonomy
Blanus was named by Wagler (1830). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Vanzolini (1951).

It was assigned to Amphisbaenidae by Vanzolini (1951) and Frank and Ramus (1996); and to Blanidae by Venczel and Stiuca (2008), Bolet et al. (2014) and Cernansky et al. (2015).
