Cancellaria (Narona) barystoma was named by Woodring (1970) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Panama.]. Its type specimen is USNM 645732, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Narona barystoma by Landau et al. (2012) and Landau et al. (2012).
