Adiantites was named by Goeppert (1836). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Adiantites oblongifolium.

It was assigned to Polypodiaceae by Knowlton (1919); to Filicales by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); and to Calamopityaceae by Taylor et al. (2009).
