Cancellaria plummeri was named by Olsson (1922). Its type specimen is 20960, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Trigonostoma plummeri by Marks (1949); it was recombined as Ventrilia plummeri by Landau et al. (2012).
