Taxonomy
Tornoceras frechi was named by Wedekind (1918). It is not extant. It is the type species of Phoenixites.

It was recombined as Phoenixites frechi by Becker and House (2000), Korn and Klug (2002) and Woroncowa-Marcinowska (2006).
