Taxonomy
Axelella emblema was named by Jung and Petit (1990). Its type specimen is NMB H 17335, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is NMB Loc. 16942 - Río Yaque del Norte [Baitoa Fm], which is in a Langhian marine siltstone in the Baitoa Formation of the Dominican Republic.
