Astroniumxylon parabalansae

Taxonomy
Astroniumxylon parabalansae was named by Franco and Brea (2008). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is PALBO 24. PALBOmic 594, a plant debris (log), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nivel Fosilifero 1, Toma Vieja, ParanĂ¡, which is in a Miocene terrestrial siltstone in the ParanĂ¡ Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Astroniumxylon.

Vessels scarce small to medium sized. Vessels with tyloses. Intervessel pits alternate, bordered and small. Rays thin and wide, uniseriate and multiseriate of 4-5 cells. Rays multiseriate with or without schizogenous channels. Radial system heterogenous. Rays numerosous, heterocellular with body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright marginal cells. Fibers with hexagonal or rounded section, irregular arrangement, abundant, and thick-walled. Axial parenchyma apotracheal and paratracheal vasicentric, complete and incomplete.
