Reptaria was named by Rolle (1851) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl D Give-u Sepkoski's reference number: 575,1066]. It is the type genus of Reptariidae.

It was assigned to Reptariidae by Bassler (1953); and to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
