Taxonomy
Arcestes selwyni was named by McLearn (1930). Its type specimen is GSC 9047 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Nitanoceras.

It was recombined as Nitanoceras selwyni by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1994).

Synonyms
  • Nitanoceras leve was named by McLearn (1947). Its type specimen is GSC 9544 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC 9213, Beattie Ledge, which is in a Longobardian marine siltstone in the Toad Formation of Canada.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Nitanoceras selwyni by Tozer (1994).
