Texasophis meini was named by Rage and Holman (1984). Its type specimen is FSL 285 002, a set of vertebrae (a single trunk vertebra), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Grive M, which is in a MN 7 + 8 fissure fill /limestone in France.
