Cassis bisulcata was named by Schubert and Wagner (1829) [DISTRIBUTION: Neogene-Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Semicassis.

It was recombined as Faurotis bisulcata by Jousseaume (1888); it was recombined as Phalium (Semicassis) bisulcata by Abbott (1968); it was recombined as Phalium (Semicassis) bisulcatum by Skwarko and Sufiati (1994); it was recombined as Semicassis bisulcata by Beu (2005) and Beu (2010).

  • Cassis (Semicassis) quilonensis was named by Dey (1961) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; India.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Quilon Limestone (Quilon, Kerala), which is in a Miocene carbonate limestone in the Quilon Limestone Formation of India.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Semicassis bisulcata by Beu (2005).
  • Phalium (Semicassis) dalrymplei was named by Cox (1948). It is not a trace fossil.
