Tretocycloecia was named by Canu (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut-l T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1048]. It is the type genus of Tretocycloeciidae.
It was assigned to Tretocycloeciidae by Bassler (1953); and to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
