Taxonomy
Triton verruculosus was named by Sowerby (1846). Its type specimen is BMNH G26396, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Triton verruculosum by d'Orbigny (1852); it was recombined as Tritonium verruculosum by Philippi (1887); it was recombined as Cymatium verruculosus by Covacevich and Frassinetti (1990); it was recombined as Ameranella verruculosa by Beu (1998) and Beu (2010).
