Triton exaratum was named by Reeve (1844). It is extant.

It was recombined as Cabestanimorpha exarata by Iredale (1936); it was recombined as Cymatium (Monoplex) exaratum by Wilson (1993); it was recombined as Cymatium exaratum by Wellens and Wils (1997); it was recombined as Cymatium (Turritriton) exaratum by Okutani (2000); it was recombined as Monoplex exaratus by Beu (2010).
