Ceratites arcticus was named by Mojsisovics (1886).
It was recombined as Gymnotoceras arcticum by Spath (1934); it was synonymized subjectively with Frechites laqueatus by Weitschat and Lehmann (1983); it was recombined as Pleurofrechites arcticus by Tozer (1994).
