Voigtopora was named by Bassler (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Camp-l].

It was assigned to Diastoporidae by Bassler (1953); to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Stomatoporidae by Guha and Gopikrishna (2007), Di Martino and Taylor (2013), Guha (2013), Di Martino and Taylor (2014) and Brezina et al. (2021).
