Taxonomy
Gemmamonocolpites barbatus was named by González-Guzmán (1967). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Slide F-III-96-579 (Catatumbo). Loc: 39.6X110 (micr. P0-58), a seed repro (Pollen grain), and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts.

A. E. González-Guzmán 1967Pollen grain monocolpate, globular to oval; furrow C α 1, C β 1, C γ 2; sculpture type gemmate. Gemmae 0.3-1.4 μ long, the diameter varying from 0.4 to 1.1 μ. Grain possibly intectate. Thickness of exine (incl. of gemmae) about 2 μ; ectexine (sculpture-elements) thicker than endexine. Some of sculpture elements possibly clavate.
