Cassis tenuis was named by Wood (1828). It is extant.

It was recombined as Cassis (Cypraecassis) tenuis by Schenck (1926); it was recombined as Cypraecassis (Cypraecassis) tenuis by Emerson and Old (1963); it was recombined as Cypraecassis tenuis by Beu (2010).
