Taxonomy
Microposaurus averyi was named by Warren (2012). Its type specimen is AM F.135895, a partial skull (Anterior half of skull with attached mandibles), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 7km SE of Picton, which is in an Anisian marine claystone in the Ashfield Shale Formation of Australia.
