Taxonomy
Blinasaurus townrowi was named by Cosgriff (1974). Its type specimen is UTGD 87785, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Old Beach, which is in an Induan channel conglomerate in the Knocklofty Formation of Australia. It is the type species of Blinasaurus, Banksia, Banksiops.

It was recombined as Banksia townrowi by Warren and Marsicano (1998); it was recombined as Banksiops townrowi by Warren and Marsicano (2000).
