Tricolpites santanderianus was named by Van der Hammen and Garcia de Mutis (1966). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is F-I-73 Col. S.G.N. (HB-284), a seed repro (Pollen grain), and it is a 3D body fossil.
