Ranella nana was named by Broderip and Sowerby (1829). It is extant.

It was recombined as Bursa nana by Pilsbry and Olsson (1941); it was recombined as Bursa (Colubrellina) nana by Hertlein and Strong (1955); it was recombined as Bursa (Marsupina) nana by Beu (1985); it was recombined as Marsupina nana by Cantalamessa et al. (2005) and Beu (2010).
