Pseudobatostomella aestiva was named by Schäfer and Grant-Mackie (1994). Its type specimen is OU17964 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stour River, Mt. Somers, Canterbury (K36/f6558), which is in a Ladinian marine horizon in New Zealand.
