Taxonomy
Ammonites chauvinianus was named by d'Orbigny (1842). It is the type species of Pseudopeltoceras.

It was recombined as Pseudopeltoceras chauvini by Jeannet (1951); it was recombined as Pseudopeltoceras chauvinianum by d'Orbigny (1847) and Parent (2006).
