Taxonomy
Phractocephalus acreornatus was named by Aguilera et al. (2008). Its type specimen is UFAC 4561, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cachoeira do Bandeira, which is in a Miocene fluvial-lacustrine claystone/conglomerate in the Solimoes Formation of Brazil.
