Taxonomy
Macrosemiocotzus americanus was named by González-Rodríguez et al. (2004). Its type specimen is IGM-8163, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Locality 370 Tlayúa Quarry, which is in an Albian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone/lime mudstone in the Tlayúa Formation of Mexico.
