Taxonomy
Punctothyris riojanensis was named by Lech and Aceñolaza (1987).

It was recombined as Trigonotreta riojanensis by Cisterna and Simanauskas (2000) and Waterhouse (2004); it was recombined as Pericospira riojanensis by Cisterna and Archbold (2007).
