Taxonomy
Rhynchonella ruthenensis was named by Reynes (1868). It is the type species of Rhynchonelloidea.

It was recombined as Rhynchonelloidea ruthenensis by Alméras and Peybernès (1979) and Alméras and Fauré (2000).
