Taxonomy
Ammonites semiglobosus was named by Hauer (1855). It is the type species of Homerites.

It was recombined as Halorites (Homerites) semiglobosus by Hyatt and Smith (1905); it was recombined as Homerites semiglobosus by Smith (1927), Spath (1951) and Tozer (1994).
