Taxonomy
Gonionotites avarus was named by Tozer (1994). Its type specimen is GSC 32167 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC 68202, Mount McLearn, which is in a Tuvalian marine siliciclastic in the Pardonet Formation of Canada.
