Sigmoilina was named by Schlumberger (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Sigmoilinitinae by Loeblich and Tappan (1988); to Miliolidae by Cushman (1927) and Wienrich (1997); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
