Taxonomy
Gigarton meyeri was named by Hooker and Russell (2012). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.BRL-10-G, a tooth (LM2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lentille de Berru, which is in a Thanetian terrestrial horizon in France. It is the type species of Gigarton.
