Gigarton sigogneauae was named by Hooker and Russell (2012). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.BRL-99-P, a tooth (RM2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lentille de Berru, which is in a Thanetian terrestrial horizon in France.
