Caesalpinioxylon was named by Schenk (1890). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Caesalpinioxylon quirogae.

It was assigned to Caesalpiniaceae by Koeniguer (1967); and to Leguminosae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976).
