Nothosaurus giganteus

Taxonomy
Nothosaurus giganteus was named by Münster (1834). Its type specimen is BT uncatalogued, a partial skull (skull fragments), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oschenberg, near Laineck, which is in a Ladinian marine horizon in Germany.

It was recombined as Dracosaurus giganteus by Seeley (1869).

Wild 1996A species of Nothosaurus of large size, with an adult condylobasal skull length of up to 750 mm; premaxillary rostrum relatively short and broad; four fangs on each premaxilla, followed by a distinctly smaller fifth premaxillary tooth; length to width ratio of mandibular symphysis ranging from 1.0 to 1.3; postorbital with a narrow entry into the posteroventral margin of the orbit; ectopterygoid flanges at the anterior margin of the subtemporal fossa strongly developed
