Cordioxylon prototrichotoma

Cordioxylon prototrichotoma was named by Brea and Zucol (2006) [Botanical affinity: Cordia trichotoma. In minor rank Cordia glabrata.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is LPPB 11278, pmLPPB 1694, 1695, 1696., a wood, and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Puerto Visser, which is in a Paleocene terrestrial sandstone/sandstone in the Peñas Coloradas Formation of Argentina.

Vasos: porosidad difusa con tendencia a la disposición diagonal; poros agrupados y solitarios, raramente múltiples radiales de dos elementos y ocasionalmente múltiples radiales de 3, 4 y 5 elementos; diámetro tangencial de 56-210 µm, promedio de 129.36 µm; diámetro radial de 56-280 µm, promedio de 141.68 µm; longitud 77.2-540.4 µm; placa de perforación simple; punteaduras intervasculares alternas, pequeñas y levemente ornadas; elementos de vaso numerosos y cortos. Radios: cortos, anchos y numerosos; heterocelulares y heterogéneos; multiseriados raramente uniseriados y biseriados. Fibras: cuadrangulares, no septadas, de paredes muy delgadas y abundantes. Parénquima axial: paratraqueal escaso, parénquima en bandas de una célula de ancho y apotraqueal difuso y difuso agregado.
