Taxonomy
Petalodus flabellula was named by Woodward (1889). Its type specimen is BMNH P.227a, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oreton, Shropshire (BMNH), which is in a Mississippian marine limestone in the United Kingdom.
